greetings, traveler
Welcome to my website! This is my own digital journal, projected into cyberspace. Feel free to poke around and stay as long as you like.
I am collecting all sorts of things here, with no destination in mind. I like to think of it as a carrier bag, a container for all of my thoughts and trinkets and curios, keeping each other company. Nothing on this site is optimized, monetized, or trying to sell you anything. It’s just mine, and for as long as you’re here, a little bit yours, too.

Like eBird, but worse! I started birding in 2025 after watching Listers: A Glimpse into Extreme Birdwatching. My favorite spot is Prospect Park, where I'm often looking for raptors (ospreys make me feel at home).
Think I misidentified a bird? I want to know, so please send me a message!

Things I've been reading. Mostly fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and dystopian fiction, with a steady thread of literary fiction and the occasional nonfiction detour into politics, science, or nature writing.
While I still have a soft spot for classic high fantasy stories and space operas, I am growing bored of them. I now gravitate towards speculative fiction that has something to say about how we arrange ourselves: who holds power, who does the work, and what we owe to each other. Is this really the best of all possible worlds?

"Like woman, software systems are used as man's tools, his media and his weapons; all are developed in the interests of man, but all are poised to betray him. The spectacles are stirring, there is something happening behind the mirrors, the commodities are learning how to speak and think.
[...]
Woman, like the computer, appears at different times as whatever man requires of her. She learns how to imitate; she learns simulation. And, like the computer, she becomes very good at it, so good, in fact, that she too, in principle, can mimic any function."
This was written thirty years ago, when "the commodities are learning to speak and think" was still speculative. It isn't anymore. Plant's real question was never whose interests these systems would serve - that seems obvious - but whether the mirror could hold Man's reflection forever. Whether the things he made to serve him would come around and face him instead. Thirty years later, here we are on another moral precipice, and the image staring back was never going to be human to begin with.
Sometimes a favorite book will not necessarily be one that I loved, or even liked. But it will be one that made me think a lot of Thoughts™. This is a vibes-based list.
